What is the NIELIT O Level course?
The NIELIT O Level is a Foundation Level Information Technology course conducted by the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), formerly known as DOEACC. It is equivalent to a Diploma in Computer Applications.

Who can apply for the O Level course?
You can apply if:
  • You have passed 10+2 (any stream), or
  • You have an ITI Certificate after class 10, or
  • You have completed the NIELIT CCC course.


  • What is the duration of the O Level course?
    The duration is 1 year (2 semesters of 6 months each).
    What are the subjects in the O Level exam?
    As of the latest syllabus, subjects include:
    IT Tools and Network Basics
    Web Designing & Publishing
    Programming & Problem Solving through Python
    Internet of Things (IoT)
    One practical paper
    One project
    When are the O Level exams conducted?
    Exams are held twice a year:
    January
    July

    What is the exam pattern?
    Each theory paper is of 100 marks, duration 3 hours
    Practical exam is also of 100 marks
    Project is evaluated by the institute
    What is the passing criteria?
    Theory & Practical: Minimum 50% marks
    Project: Must be completed and submitted
    What is the fee for the O Level course and exam?
    Course fee varies by institute
    Exam fee per paper: ₹1050 (approx.)
    Practical exam fee: ₹500
    Registration fee: ₹500
    Can I appear for the exam without doing the course (Direct Candidate)?
    Yes, if you meet the eligibility criteria, you can appear directly without undergoing the course through any institute (called Direct Candidate).
    Is the O Level certificate government recognized?
    Yes, it is recognized by the Government of India and is equivalent to a computer diploma for various government jobs.

    What is the validity of the O Level certificate?
    The certificate is valid for life and does not expire.
    Can I do the A Level course after completing O Level?
    Yes, O Level is a prerequisite for the NIELIT A Level course, which is an Advanced Diploma.
    Is there a negative marking in O Level exams?
    No, there is no negative marking in NIELIT O Level exams.
